Everything you need to know about Delta Rice — our varieties, how we work with farmers, and how your order reaches you.

Regular stores sell rice by colour — “red rice” or “black rice” — without telling you the variety. These are often blends from multiple sources, so you have no way of knowing exactly what you are eating. At Delta Rice, every product is a single, named heritage variety sourced from one farmer. You know the variety, the farm, the season it was grown in, and how it was farmed.
We currently carry varieties from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana including:

Navara Poongar Kaala Batti Mysore Mallige Chintaluru Sannalu

Each variety is listed separately with its own crop details. We continue to add new varieties as we onboard more farmers.
Never. We buy from individual farmers one variety at a time, and we maintain strict separation through our warehousing and packaging process. No blending, no additives, no polishing agents. What you receive is exactly what the farmer harvested.
All our varieties are currently sourced from farmers in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana — including the Godavari and Krishna delta regions, Rayalaseema, and surrounding areas. Each product listing shows the specific origin of that batch.
Each variety has traditionally been associated with specific health needs. Here is a quick guide:

Navara Diabetes management & joint pain
Poongar Women’s health & hormonal balance
Mysore Mallige Everyday wholesome eating
Kaala Batti Weight management & antioxidants

Our AI advisor on the website can also help you find the right variety based on your specific needs.
Red rice varieties are naturally rich in iron and get their colour from tannins in the bran. Black rice varieties are rich in antioxidants, particularly anthocyanin — the same compound found in blueberries. Both are significantly more nutritious than polished white rice. The key is knowing which specific variety suits your health needs — which is exactly what we help you with.
Heritage varieties like Navara have a lower glycaemic index compared to polished white rice, meaning they release energy more slowly and cause less of a spike in blood sugar. They are also higher in fibre. However, we always recommend consulting your doctor or nutritionist for specific medical advice, as every individual’s needs are different.
Heritage rice does need a little more preparation than polished white rice, but it is simple once you know the soaking times:

White rice Soak for 1 to 2 hours
Red rice Soak for 6 to 8 hours (or overnight)
Black rice Soak for 8 to 10 hours (overnight recommended)

Soaking softens the bran, reduces cooking time, and helps your body absorb the nutrients better. After soaking, drain, rinse, and cook with slightly more water than you would use for white rice. Each product page on our website includes variety-specific cooking instructions so you get the best results every time.
Farmers list their harvest directly on our platform. We handle everything after that — quality checks, warehousing, packaging, and last-mile delivery — so farmers focus only on growing. This means they earn more by selling directly to consumers, without losing a share to middlemen at every step.
Yes — that is one of our core commitments. In a traditional supply chain, farmers receive a fraction of the final price after brokers, wholesalers, and retailers each take a margin. By selling directly through Delta Rice, a significantly larger share of what you pay reaches the farmer. Fair earnings also give farmers the incentive to keep growing rare heritage varieties instead of switching to high-yield commodity crops.
Every batch goes through quality checks before it reaches our warehouse. We verify the variety, moisture content, cleanliness, and packaging integrity. Batches that do not meet our standards are not listed. We also maintain complete separation between varieties throughout storage and fulfilment.
Every product listing includes: variety name, farmer name and location, harvest season, farming type (organic, natural, or traditional), and the age of the product — so you always know how recently it was harvested. This is the information that disappears when rice is blended and sold generically — and it is the information that helps you make the right choice.
